Bacon is 5 Months!

It's been a big month for our family.

Eggy started preschool.  She's still adjusting.  She cried on the second day.  Still, I didn't cry.  But on my way to work, I called the school a half hour later to see how she was doing and they told me she wasn't crying anymore but just sticking close to one of the teachers, observing.  I don't know, for some reason, that totally got me.  I called Eggy appah, crying.  Friday was worse (but I didn't cry this time).  The teacher had to pick her up while Eggy was screaming at me, "Umma, don't leave!!!  DON'T LEAVE!!!"  Sigh.  I've heard from other parents that it took their kid about a month for the tears to stop.  A month is a long time.

We went to Eggy appah's cousin's wedding.  We didn't get there until cocktail hour though because the kids were still napping and I didn't want to wake them because I figured they'd be up late.  So unfortunately, we totally missed the ceremony.  :(  Bacon was fussy, either from the heat or the noise or hunger or just being tired.   Luckily, the wedding was really close to our house so I took him home after about an hour, just enough time to show his face.  Eemo put him to bed and watched him while I went back to the wedding.
Eggy had a blast.  And why wouldn't she?  She got to eat...
 have all kinds of dessert...
 and dance, dance, dance.
Eggy appah had posted a video of Eggy dancing to Gangnam Style (she's gotten much better since the video I last posted) on his facebook that morning so his family kept asking Eggy if she would do the dance for them.  Later, Eggy appah asked the DJ to play Gangnam Style and Eggy was tearing it up.  Hilarious.  I need to get the video from Eggy appah's cousin.  We didn't stay too late.  I think we got home just before 9.  I know, we're party animals.  But Eggy knocked O.U.T. that night, even with all the sugar.

Anyway, this post should be about Bacon.

OMG, guess what?!  Bacon is sleeping through the night!!!  Hallelujah!  It's still a work in progress but his sleep is sooooo much better.  I really hope I'm not jinxing things.  He still wakes up once or twice a night for a feeding but I'm totally okay with that.  I mean, he was waking up at least 3 or 4 times during the night before and that was considered a good night!  Maybe once we start solids, he'll be able to go the full twelve hours.  I know I said I was eager to start sleep training but when the time came I was still hesitant.  He seemed so young!  But his pediatrician gave us the green light at his 4 month check so there was no real reason not to do it.  Anyway, it's been nice to have my evenings back again.

He's learned to roll over from his back to his tummy.
It would actually take him a while to fall asleep because he kept trying to roll on to his front instead of lying on his back.  About a week after we started sleep training, he finally managed to roll over.  And that's how he slept, with his face planted in the mattress.  We tried to roll him back but he cried, rolled back again, and went to sleep.  I figured if that's how he wanted to sleep, that's how he was going to sleep.  I couldn't keep going in and roll him back every time throughout the night.  But did he have to sleep with his face down on the mattress like that?  I kept waking up during the night to make sure he was still breathing.  (When I told my mom about how he was sleeping, on his tummy with his face down, she said, "Oh no!  His nose will be flat!"  Really, mom?  You're worried about his nose?  Forget the danger of suffocation.  Such an Asian worry.)  Anyway, for awhile, he could only roll one way, to his left.  And he'd get mad because he forgot how to roll back to his back.  So that would wake him up a few times.  Then, he wanted to roll to his right.  Again, took a few days but he just started rolling to right today.  So now, he's an ambi-turner.  Yay.

I'm not sure what his stats are because he doesn't have a check up until next month.  But he's almost too big for size 2 diapers.  At least his thighs are, haha.  At night, we put him in the size 3 and they fit fine.  Gotta use up the rest of those size 2s though.

Bacon is getting a lot better with his hands.  He's able to reach out and grab things.  And he's always trying to put everything in his mouth.

My hair is still falling out but I think Bacon's not shedding as much.  He's got a little more hair on top but it's still pretty sparse.  I think Eggy had more hair when she was born than Bacon has now.  Oh well, at least he's got a nice shaped head.  It's so round, except for a couple weird spots.  You can't really tell unless you touch it or his hair is wet but it's almost like a dent.

He's still drooling but no sign of any teeth just yet.  That's fine by me because I'm worried about him biting me.  Also, I'm going to miss that gummy smile.

Preparation

Guess what arrived in the mail this week?

Eggy understands most of what her halmuni says but doesn't really speak Korean herself so I had to make sure she knows how to properly greet my grandmother and other relatives.  Ahn young ha sae yo!  I've also been brushing Eggy up on the Korean trends.  I taught her how to ppuing ppuing.

And I saw this video a few weeks ago but I knew it must be big when my parents and my non-Korean friend asked me if I had seen it.
So OF COURSE, Eggy had to learn it.  Otherwise, how else will she be the next K-pop Star?  Watch out, JYP!  Eggy's coming to Korea!

Triple Threat

So you already know how much Eggy loves to sing.  I'm not sure what she likes more:  singing or dancing.
Anyway, watch this video first so you know what Eggy's dancing to: (You can probably skip to 1:45ish to get to the song)

Eggy's own choreography to Nobody:

If I want her to be the next Beyonce or Justin Timberlake so that her millions of dollars will take care of the hubby and I in our old age, I guess I should get her to start acting too.  She can definitely fake cry to get what she wants.  Working on other emotions:
Hmm, I wonder if Toddlers & Tiaras is casting.

PS - Thanks for all the birthday wishes.  Makes a girl feel special.  (And old.)

Super Bowl Sunday

She usually does a better touchdown dance than that but I can't get a good one on video.  Oh well, maybe next season.

How to teach your baby to drive

Things like seatbelts and checking the rearview mirror?  Totally overrated.

More Disney Fun

So we're really trying to make the most of our annual Disneyland passes.  Can you tell?  What?!  Those suckers are expensive and I just realized that I probably won't even get to ride the fun rides this year.  And don't tell me I could ride by myself because it's just not the same.
Anyway, I guess as long as Eggy enjoys herself, that's all that matters.

Eggy really likes the Playhouse Disney show.

I think it was bigger than her head.

Happy 19 Months!

Yesterday was a busy day.  In the morning, Mrs. Miyagi and I went to visit our friend Jamo who just had a baby boy a few weeks ago!  He's so tiny and precious.  Later, we went trick or treating with the Miyagis and their son, D-san, who's about 9 months.  Anyway, seeing all these younger babies makes me realize how much Eggy has grown and changed.  She really is a toddler, not a baby anymore.  Pretty soon, I won't even be shopping in the baby section anymore.  I was looking back at her pictures from a year ago and I hardly remember that baby!!  It makes me a little sad.  But I'm also enjoying this stage too.

Lately, Eggy's favorite game is to change her dolls' diaper, usually her Hello Kitty doll.  Okay, so Hello Kitty doesn't have a diaper but we pretend.  Eggy will bring me her HK doll and either point to its butt or pat her own crotch.  So, I tell her to smell HK's butt and ask if her baby pooped.  I pretend to take off a diaper and wipe HK's butt and give Eggy the "diaper" to throw away.  And she actually does it.  It's kind of funny because she always makes me change her dolls; she won't do it herself.  And she doesn't even care if I put a clean diaper back on, she just wants to throw away the dirty diaper.  What a weirdo.

Also, Eggy seems to be picking up more words lately.  Just today, she told me to "mmooooh!"  Translation: move!  (I was sitting in her chair.)  I don't know whether to be proud or offended.

Maybe Eggy will learn the Thriller dance by Halloween next year.
Sometimes, I think Eggy is going to be an amazing dancer when she gets older.  Then, other times, well... not so much.

Besides dancing, Eggy has been perfecting her fake laugh.  Yesterday, when the grown-ups would laugh about something, she'd throw in her fake laugh like she knew what we were talking about.  Also, sometimes when she giggles, she'll also get the hiccups.  So funny.

And the most exciting news!
Today!  For the first time ever!!  Eggy peed in her potty!!!  I am beyond excited!!!!
I picked her up to take her into the house (we had just come back from running errands) and her leg was wet.  She must have just peed and leaked out of her diaper.  Anyway, I had to pee real bad so I took off her pants and diaper and she sat on her potty while I did my business.  Normally, I just leave her diaper and pants on when she sits on her potty.  I don't even know if she ever goes since it just stays in her diaper and I don't check but sometimes, I think she does pee.  Anyway, I just want her to get used to the idea of sitting on it.  So this time, I wasn't really expecting anything since she had just peed herself but she looked like she was concentrating.  And a few seconds later, I heard it!  That tiny little trickle hitting the plastic!  It was hardly any pee, like barely a teaspoon maybe.  (No, I didn't measure it!)  But it was still pee!  In the potty!!  And Eggy put it there!!!
We still have a looong way to go but I'm just so excited because maybe it means that Eggy is starting to get it.  Or maybe it was just good timing.  Who knows?  It might be another month before Eggy will even go near the potty again!  Still, we're on our way.

Prima Ballerina

Look what Eggy found in the closet...

The tutu that eemo made for her.

She may need a little work on her form.

Making music

Eggy loves music. She knows how to turn on the toys that play music. And she likes to have 5 or 6 different toys going at once.
She found a new way to play with her toy.
Maybe one day, she'll perform at the Hollywood Bowl using her special technique.

Drop it like it's hot

Did you know? Eggy's got a new BFF. They like to go clubbing together and dance. Giraffes are out, elephants are in.

Happy 8 Months!

This post is late because I had to go through a bunch of videos.

It's getting harder to take these monthly pictures because she gets distracted and keeps trying to grab the "months" sign. I might have to come up with something else.

Can you believe Eggy is 8 months already? This past month has probably been my favorite so far. She's so much fun and she's doing all kinds of things.

Okay, so she's not crawling yet but she's getting close. She rocks back and forth on her hands and knees. Sometimes, she ends up scooting backwards. After a while, she gets mad that she's not going anywhere. haha It's hard to get that potbelly off the ground, huh Eggy?

But she can...
give you five
do jamjam (open and close her hand)
do doridori (shake her head)
clap her hands kinda
drink from a straw if I hold it for her
And when you say "good girl!" she gets all proud. Of course, she only does these things when she feels like it.

She'll also dance when she hears music. I think she likes the Black Eyed Peas.

Eggy will make these funny faces where she wrinkles her nose and her eyes get all chinky. And when you laugh, she does it again and again and laughs with you. Her laugh is funny too because it's like she lets out her laugh one at a time. Yeah, she's stingy with her laughs.

She likes paper. Or more specifically, Eggy likes to rip paper. Sometimes, she tries to rip the paper over her head which is funny to see because her arms are too short and/or her head is too big so her cheeks get all squished.
Forget toys for Christmas, I'll just give her the wrapping paper.

In addition to her two bottom teeth, she has another one coming in at the top. I think it's her left lateral incisor which is weird because I think the central incisors are supposed to come in first.

Eggy went from three naps to two naps a day. It went pretty smoothly. She still wakes up a couple times at night though. Her best nights are sleeping 7-8 hours straight before she wakes up to feed. Too bad those 8 hours are from 8pm-3/4am. Oh well, I'll take it. It beats those newborn nights when she'd wake up every 2-3 hours for sure.
We added peas and yogurt to her diet. Not her favorites but she'll eat it. Most of it.

Even with all this fun, she can still be a little punk ass. If I take something away from her, she gets mad and yells/cries. She's going to be a bully on the playground, I just know it.

Or she'll be playing fine with someone, like my mom, but as soon as she sees me, she starts whining for me.
I don't know whether to be flattered or annoyed. One day, I'll be the one whining for her to hang out with me so I should just shut up and enjoy it while it lasts.

Don't call me fat!

I guess Eggy is still trying to lose weight. I tell her chubby is in but she won't believe me. I think she just wants to look good in her new skinny jeans. Do you know she's already wearing size 12 months clothes? What a beast!

So, Eggy is doing portion control. Instead of eating her food, she's decided to wear it. And the stuff that I do manage to get in her mouth? Pbbbbbbtt!

And she's found a new way to burn some calories since she can't crawl yet... dancing!
