Eggy is a Ham

So unflattering but they make me laugh.  She'll probably be kill me when she's older.

Umm, you want what?

Eggy appah usually exposes Eggy to more eclectic music than I do.  Even older songs, like Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight" Eggy knows how to sing.  When she's with me, she gets mostly pop.
So tonight in the car, she asked to listen to... One Erection.

Firsts

Last week was Eggy's first full week at pre-school.  The first few days were pretty bad but on Thursday, she didn't cry!  She seemed a little sad that I was leaving but no tears.  And same thing on Friday.  But this morning, she cried.  I should have kept walking instead of looking back at her.  I heard her cry, "I want umma..." before the teacher closed the door.

Also, yesterday, we had a playdate with two of Eggy's classsmates, a girl and boy.  We all happen to live in the same community so we got together at Eggy's new friend's house.  I think they had fun.  It's hard to tell because at this age, they're not playing with each other, just next to each other.  And they're both a little younger than Eggy, not quite three.  But I know Eggy liked playing with the "new" toys.  She even said she wanted to go over there again - to play with the jack-in-the-box.  We're all hoping that this will help the kids so they'll have a familiar face when they go to school.  It's kind of awkward because it feels like we're forced to make friends but the other parents seem very nice.

Eggy also got her first cold from school.  I'm assuming it's from school but I guess she could have picked it up anywhere.  It wasn't too bad though.  Just some congestion and a runny nose for a few days.  Yes, I was that parent and still sent her to school.  I asked and they said as long as she didn't have a fever, diarrhea, or vomiting, or green/yellow boogers, she was okay.  And I didn't want her to stay home when she had only been in school for a few days.  But Bacon and I caught her cold too.  Luckily, it didn't last long.

Another first is that I got a call from the teacher last Thursday because one of the students had pushed Eggy.  He was younger than her and wanted the blocks that she was playing with and pushed her.  She didn't fall down or anything but she just got really upset.  I can imagine.  Eggy's the type who will keep crying even after the incident is way over.  She can be pretty sensitive.  But I guess she's fine because she didn't even mention it at home.  And I didn't want to bring it up and remind her.  I thought Eggy appah would be really upset because he's always worried that Eggy will be bullied.  But he took it better than I thought.  My mom, though, she's funny.  She was all like, "Who was it?  Who was it?  Gijibae!  Was it a brat?  She shouldn't have cried; she should have hit him!  I would have hit him!"  Poor Eggy, I feel so bad that I wasn't there to protect her or comfort her.  I almost cried when the teacher told me.  She kept asking the teacher, "Why did he push me?"

She's had two accidents at school.  Good thing they make us keep a change of clothes.  She even peed her pants at home a couple times.  She told me, "Uh-oh, I had an accident."  She used to get upset before but now she's all nonchalant.  Another time, she didn't even tell us; I saw that her pants were wet.  Sigh.  I guess regressions are normal?

Luckily, she's still taking her nap.  I really really don't want her to give those up yet.  I think she cried before naps the first few days but that's normal too.  I think most of the kids cried before naps.  But the teacher told them that their parents would come pick them up after naptime so that helped.  And they let her bring her blanket from home that she always sleeps with.

I don't know if she's made any friends yet.  She's said a bunch of names but I don't know if she's just remembering names or if she's really interacted with any of them.

Overall, I'd say Eggy is adjusting really well.  She seems comfortable with her teachers (but she's always been pretty good with adults).  She makes me pretend to be Ms. M and ask me questions constantly. Ay, poor Ms. M if she's putting up with the same thing I am!  And I saw Eggy climb into Ms. D's lap like she does with me and her dad.  She still doesn't talk much about school.  Eggy appah tried to ask and she told him it was a secret.  I didn't think she'd refuse to talk about school until she was much older.  But I guess it's normal because the other parents said their kid won't talk about school either.  Once in awhile, she'll mention things here and there.  She's learned a couple new songs.  She played Duck, Duck, Goose.  She made a bracelet and a necklace out of beads.  She showed me her bracelet and said, "Look, umma.  BEATS!"  I asked her if she had made me a necklace too and she said no, it was only for her.
Her bracelet
Her first school painting has a hole in the middle of the paper.  I guess someone got a little zealous with the paintbrush.
But look how much better she is with the paintbrush after a week.  She used to just smear the paint all over but she's painting inside the line!  Mostly.  She was so focused.
This was yesterday at the playdate
Even though she says she doesn't want to go to school, I think it's been good for her.  It's weird not knowing all the details of her day.  That's probably been one of the hardest things for me.  Eggy appah and I were saying she even seems different since school started.  She must have been so bored at home.  I'm excited for her.  I hope she has a great year.

The Longest Day

It was Eggy's first day of pre-school today!   We stopped by the school yesterday so Eggy could meet her teachers and see her classroom.  I think that helped.  Eggy was super excited.  She could not wait to go.  Which is good because a few weeks ago, she said she didn't want to go because she said that she would miss me too much.  Luckily, she changed her mind when I told her there would be all kinds of fun things to do at school.
I was excited too but I was more nervous.  I just felt so unprepared.  How did the summer go by so fast?
I remember when I was in school, that first week felt like the longest week.  It was kind of like that again today.  I just kept looking at the time, wondering what she was doing.

When we dropped her off this morning, she didn't cry.  Yay!  But I saw her looking through the window while we were walking out and she seemed a little confused.  But then she just went about her business, checking out the classroom.  That made me a little sad but I didn't cry.  Yay for me too!
And when I picked her up in the afternoon, I couldn't tell if she had been crying or maybe she had just woken up.  But she did say something about how she cried before her nap because she missed Bacon.  I tried to get more information about her day, like what she learned, what did she play with, new friends but I didn't get much.  The teacher is supposed to call tonight with a report though.

I guess we'll see what happens tomorrow.  I hear the second day is harder because now the kid knows they're actually going to be left there the whole day.  Fingers crossed!

Update: Just before bed tonight, Eggy said she didn't want to go to school tomorrow.  And she started tearing up.  Uh-oh....

Preparation

Guess what arrived in the mail this week?

Eggy understands most of what her halmuni says but doesn't really speak Korean herself so I had to make sure she knows how to properly greet my grandmother and other relatives.  Ahn young ha sae yo!  I've also been brushing Eggy up on the Korean trends.  I taught her how to ppuing ppuing.

And I saw this video a few weeks ago but I knew it must be big when my parents and my non-Korean friend asked me if I had seen it.
So OF COURSE, Eggy had to learn it.  Otherwise, how else will she be the next K-pop Star?  Watch out, JYP!  Eggy's coming to Korea!

Mini-me

From the moment Eggy was born, everyone said she looked like her dad.  As she gets older, I think she looks less like him and a little more like me.  Not only that, she's starting to act like me too.  I guess it's inevitable that all girls turn into their mothers.

One evening last month, we walked to Panera for dinner.  We had some leftover baguette that we brought back.  I turn around to check on Eggy in the wagon and the little piggy had her hand in the bag, trying to get the bread.  Never mind that we had just eaten dinner.
Caught in the act -  too bad it's blurry
Asking appah to please get her some bread
I asked her if she wanted to go to Uncle Green Thumb's  wedding next month and she was like, no.  I told her there'd be cake and she was like, yeah, I want to go!  And she asked me the next morning if we were going to the wedding that day so we could eat cake.

One time we were all eating dinner together and I was talking to Eggy appah about something.  And Eggy says to me, very bossy-like, "No more talking!  It's dinner time!  You have to eat now!"  Just because I'm always nagging her to hurry up and finish her food, I can't even have a conversation.  Psh!  Girl, if you're not eating, you're talking.  Seriously, I don't know if her meals take a long time because she eats so much or because her mouth is too busy talking and singing.
Lunch at Costco
She ate almost half the pizza by herself!
A few nights ago, Eggy and I were hanging out and playing in her room before bedtime.  You know those glow stick bracelet things that you can connect together?  Well, she connected a few of them together so it was like a half circle and she put it under her chin so the ends were dangling down in front of her.  Then, she put one of the ends in a stacking cup and informed me that SHE WAS PUMPING.  Bwahahahahaha!!!  Wait, it gets better!  When I pump, she likes to "help" by turning it on and pushing the buttons so she asked me to push the button for her.  "Of course," I said.  And she started making the pumping noise, like errr errr errr.  Then, she said to push it again (because my pump has two modes) and she made the other sound.  I about busted up but I didn't want to embarrass her so I held it in.  After she was done "pumping" milk, she said she was going to pump juice.

3 years, 2 months

I meant to write this post back in April around Eggy's birthday but I've been a little busy, haha.  I've totally forgotten how tiring it can be taking care of a newborn.  Actually, to be honest, the newborn stage sucks.  Especially since I think Bacon has colic.  Yuck.  I know I'm supposed to enjoy it because "they grow up so fast" and "he'll only be this little for so long" but I would rather just fast forward to at least six months.  I just remember very specifically thinking when Eggy was maybe 6 or 8 months old how much fun she was.  Don't get me wrong; I'm not saying I didn't love her or enjoy being with her.  It just got more fun as she got older.  Eggy's newborn stage is all so hazy to me (That's got to be some biological voodoo because why else would people subject themselves to this craziness and have more than one kid.) so I thought I should try to record some of the stuff she's doing at this age.  Because don't you know?  They grow up way too fast.
  • She knows how to spell her first name.  She can also write the first letters of her first and last name.  And the letter O but that's because it's a circle.
  • She knows her address.
  • She can count to 20, sort of.  She gets confused after 12:  ten, eleven, twelve, eleventeen, fourteen, sixteen....
  • Her favorite color is orange.
  • She's starting to learn her phonics.  I don't know if she totally gets it but if I ask her what letter does popcorn start with for example and I say, "puh, puh, puh, popcorn" she'll say P.
  • She can ride her tricycle.  She used to get frustrated because she couldn't pedal that well or she'd be scared of falling but she's doing really well now.  She even asked her dad for a bike.
  • At her check up in April, she weighed 29 pounds, 6.4 ounces and measured 38 inches tall.  I think she's grown since then.  She's still pretty skinny though because she can still fit in a lot of her summer clothes from last year.  They're just a little bit shorter.
  • She still wears a pull-up at night even though she has no problems during the day.
  • She can open doors now.  In the morning, she comes running into our room even though we tell her she has to stay in her bed/room until her alarm clock turns green.
  • She knows that she's three years old but she also knows that when we go to Disneyland, she's two still (if they ask).  ;)  So now when people ask her her age, she looks at me to see what number she's supposed to say.
  • She understands almost everything my mom says to her in Korean even though she doesn't really speak it herself.  She'll even watch cartoons in Korean, like Pororo or Robocar Poli.  And she knows a few songs in Korean but I think she's just repeating my mom phonetically, not really understanding the words.  I think she'd be better off if she knew how to speak Mandarin but Eggy appah only knows Cantonese.  I should send her to a Chinese school but then she'd hardly ever get to speak/hear the language outside of school.
  • When she poops, she pinches her nose.  Whenever she smells anything bad, she pinches her nose and yells, "Stinky!"  If she farts, she yells, "Stinky!" and runs away.  Sometimes, she'll grab a book and try to fan it away.
Stinky fertilizer
  • Since she'd be seeing Bacon's bits during diaper changes, we told her about how boys have a penis and girls have a vagina (did you totally just think of Kindergarten Cop right now?).  She calls it a "magina."  One time we were at Ikea and she told her dad that he has a penis.  Really loudly.
  • She refuses to cut her hair.  I don't know why.  She came along when I went to get my hair cut a few months ago and she let my stylist cut some bangs.  Then, he couldn't help himself and cut a few layers in the front and curled it too.  haha
  • She's still a really good eater.  Really really good.  I mean she likes sweets and other junk food too but like if you gave her a plate of french fries and bell peppers, she'd eat both equally.  Let's hope it stays that way.
  • She's always singing some random song and I don't know if it's from some show she watched or if she totally made it up.  Also, she knows how to rhyme words.  She gets a big kick out of all those "See you later, alligator.  In a while, crocodile." sayings.  And she loves to sing The Name Game song.
  • You know how kids are always asking why, why why?  Eggy asks, "How come?"  I didn't realize it until my sister pointed it out but that's what I say.  So it's always "How come?"  So annoying.  I don't mind her asking something if she really wants to know but sometimes she doesn't even listen to the answer.  She just keeps repeating "How come?" Or sometimes the question doesn't even make sense.
  • She also talks a lot.  A LOT.  All the time.  Sometimes, she even talks in her sleep.  And just like singing, I don't know where she learns some of the things she says.  And when she says certain words wrong, I don't always correct her because I think it's cute and funny.  Like when she says she's a little bit "infused" instead of confused.  And of course, when she says magina.
Anyway, those are just some random things about Eggy right now.  Love my girl.
