Working It

Eggy, the next Gisele Bundchen...

Potty Training: WIN!

It's only been a few days and I might be jinxing it but Eggy is totally rocking at peeing on the potty.

Saturday night - Eggy's hanging out diaperless.  I forget why she wasn't wearing a diaper.  It's probably because Eggy appah had just gotten rid of her soiled diaper and decided not to put a new one on her.  If it had been me, I would have just put a new diaper on.  As it was, I was constantly watching Eggy, telling her not to sit on the sofa or the rug; to sit on her Pororo mat instead.  If she had an accident, it would have been a lot easier to clean the mat.  Anyway, after some time, Eggy says, "Eggy shi-shi," goes and sits down on the potty and PEES!  She did it!  All on her own.  We didn't even have to say anything.  So after she peed, I gave her a gummi bear.  About ten minutes later, she says she has to pee again and she sits on the potty again!  So of course, I give her another gummi bear.  Eggy does this whole little bit of pee-gets a gummi bear routine another two times and that's when I realize my baby is an evil genius.  Okay, not evil but definitely sneaky.  Eggy was letting out her pee a little bit at a time so she could get the maximum amount of gummi bears.  She was totally working the system!  So I told her, "No more.  Make one big peepee.  Let it all out."  At the same time, I was pretty impressed with her bladder control.  It wasn't too long ago where she'd only tell us "pee pee" about half a second before she had pee running down her leg.
Sunday - In the morning, we just hung out at home and Eggy peed in the potty every. single. time.  Not one accident!  One time, she came up to me, told me she had to go, and managed to hold it until we got to the potty.  I still put a diaper on her for her nap though.  In the afternoon, we went to the hubby's uncle's house for his baby boy's one month so Eggy wore a diaper there too.  But when we got back home, she peed in the potty again before her bath.
Today - This morning, I asked Eggy if she wanted to go potty and she said no.  I think she might have even peed in the diaper right before I asked her.  But after a couple minutes, she said she had to go and I put her on the toilet and she peed.  And when we got to my mom's house (I had work), Eggy peed again two more times.  This time, she got m&m's.  Again, no accidents today!  She did poop in her diaper today (right after she woke up from her nap) so she hasn't pooped in the potty yet.

But isn't she doing awesome?  We are so proud.  It's like a switch turned on and she just gets it now.  I'm sure the reward of the candy helps a lot but we used to try bribing her before and she would still refuse.  I wish I could take credit for how well Eggy's doing but I have no idea what changed.  All these months of trying to get her to use the potty and one day, Eggy just decides that she's ready, I guess.  Maybe she was getting tired of wearing a diaper since the weather's been so hot?  It can't be comfortable wearing that.  Whatever it is, I'm pretty excited.  And she looks so cute in her panties (although she seems to prefer being butt nekkid).

Pooping is haaard

This is how she gets her M&Ms.  She'll poop in her diaper and ask for M&Ms (or jelly beans or whatever).  I tell her no, she has to poop in the potty to get an M&M.  So she goes and sits on the potty with the poop still in her diaper and says she did it.  Sometimes I give in because I figure at least she sat on the potty.  Who's training who here?

Potty Training: FAIL

Notice something different about Eggy?
 Here's another view.
No diaper!  That's why her ass is so flat.

Anyway, we decided to try potty training Eggy today because we thought she was ready.  We were wrong.  Or maybe she is ready but we just didn't do it right.  Usually, I'm all about research research research but this time, I just kind of winged it.  Well, I did read this but other than that, not much else.
Because honestly?  Eggy's already used the potty a few times.  She knows what pee-pee and poo-poo are.  I just figured that she needed to learn to tell us when she needed to go.  I wasn't expecting her to be totally diaper free in just three days.  She would still need a diaper for naps and bedtime.  I was just hoping that she'd use the toilet on a more regular basis.  I expected accidents.  What I didn't expect was that Eggy would refuse to use the potty.
It started okay in the morning.  She peed on the floor a couple times but no pee in the potty.  That was fine; I expected that.  Maybe we put too much pressure on her but by the afternoon, she was holding in her pee. Like, she'd act like she'd have to go and even say that she had to go and we'd run to the bathroom and... nothing.  We tried getting her to just sit and stay on the potty but still no pee.  She'd grab her crotch and cry, "aiya" and no pee.  Sometimes, a little pee would trickle out but it was like she was afraid to pee.  Eggy ended up releasing her flood of pee all over both the hubs and me and cried the whole time.  Poor baby.  I think we traumatized her because she didn't want to pee anymore after that, not even after we put her diaper back on.  She didn't even poop today.  I don't want her holding everything in and causing problems.

Eggy appah doesn't think it was a total failure because now she knows to tell us when she gets that urge to pee.  It was a really really long day.  I guess we'll wait another month or so and try again.  Looks like I've got some reading and researching to do.  Any tips?

How many times can I say poop?

My child is a pooping genius!  A prodigy on the potty!  Okay, not really but last week, she did go poop on the potty!  Okay, so I had to bribe her with an M&M but she did it!  Okay, so she won't do it anymore and keeps asking for the M&M instead but she pooped!  On the potty!  Not in her diaper!
Don't worry, I did not take a picture of it.  And even if I did, I'll spare you the image.  I'm sure you all know what poop looks like.
Anyway, now the little booger keeps faking me out.  She'll say, "poo poo" and so we run to the bathroom and as soon as she sits on the potty (by now, I still leave her clothes on because she's faked me out too many times), she asks for an M&M.  No, poo poo first, Eggy!  Oh well, at least she doesn't mind sitting on the potty.

Eggy is also very hygienically conscientious.

Happy 19 Months!

Yesterday was a busy day.  In the morning, Mrs. Miyagi and I went to visit our friend Jamo who just had a baby boy a few weeks ago!  He's so tiny and precious.  Later, we went trick or treating with the Miyagis and their son, D-san, who's about 9 months.  Anyway, seeing all these younger babies makes me realize how much Eggy has grown and changed.  She really is a toddler, not a baby anymore.  Pretty soon, I won't even be shopping in the baby section anymore.  I was looking back at her pictures from a year ago and I hardly remember that baby!!  It makes me a little sad.  But I'm also enjoying this stage too.

Lately, Eggy's favorite game is to change her dolls' diaper, usually her Hello Kitty doll.  Okay, so Hello Kitty doesn't have a diaper but we pretend.  Eggy will bring me her HK doll and either point to its butt or pat her own crotch.  So, I tell her to smell HK's butt and ask if her baby pooped.  I pretend to take off a diaper and wipe HK's butt and give Eggy the "diaper" to throw away.  And she actually does it.  It's kind of funny because she always makes me change her dolls; she won't do it herself.  And she doesn't even care if I put a clean diaper back on, she just wants to throw away the dirty diaper.  What a weirdo.

Also, Eggy seems to be picking up more words lately.  Just today, she told me to "mmooooh!"  Translation: move!  (I was sitting in her chair.)  I don't know whether to be proud or offended.

Maybe Eggy will learn the Thriller dance by Halloween next year.
Sometimes, I think Eggy is going to be an amazing dancer when she gets older.  Then, other times, well... not so much.

Besides dancing, Eggy has been perfecting her fake laugh.  Yesterday, when the grown-ups would laugh about something, she'd throw in her fake laugh like she knew what we were talking about.  Also, sometimes when she giggles, she'll also get the hiccups.  So funny.

And the most exciting news!
Today!  For the first time ever!!  Eggy peed in her potty!!!  I am beyond excited!!!!
I picked her up to take her into the house (we had just come back from running errands) and her leg was wet.  She must have just peed and leaked out of her diaper.  Anyway, I had to pee real bad so I took off her pants and diaper and she sat on her potty while I did my business.  Normally, I just leave her diaper and pants on when she sits on her potty.  I don't even know if she ever goes since it just stays in her diaper and I don't check but sometimes, I think she does pee.  Anyway, I just want her to get used to the idea of sitting on it.  So this time, I wasn't really expecting anything since she had just peed herself but she looked like she was concentrating.  And a few seconds later, I heard it!  That tiny little trickle hitting the plastic!  It was hardly any pee, like barely a teaspoon maybe.  (No, I didn't measure it!)  But it was still pee!  In the potty!!  And Eggy put it there!!!
We still have a looong way to go but I'm just so excited because maybe it means that Eggy is starting to get it.  Or maybe it was just good timing.  Who knows?  It might be another month before Eggy will even go near the potty again!  Still, we're on our way.

Monkey See, Monkey Do

The things that Eggy picks up...
I guess that's what happens when I pee with the door open.
I know Eggy's not really ready for the potty but I've been leaving it out so she gets used to the idea.  I think she kind of gets it but we just have to work on her timing.
I'm sure Eggy will kill me for posting this when she's older but it was just too too funny.
