Bacon is 8 Months! (and 2 weeks!)

I know, I know.  I'm so behind.  Sorry, Bacon.  I still love you!  It's just been busy.  The holidays are here.  There's some work stuff.  Anyway, let's just get to it.

Bacon is officially crawling.  And the boy is fast.  When he sees something he wants, he puts it in turbo.  I swear he's even tried to run away from me a couple times.

His two top teeth came in.  They look so big compared to his bottom teeth.  And I thought I saw another tooth (bottom left) cutting through but it disappeared.

He's eating three meals a day now.  And just like his sister, he is a PIG, a bottomless pit.  He just keeps opening his mouth whenever I hold up the spoon.  I think I might be overfeeding him.  Also, he might be allergic to dairy.  His eczema seems to get worse when he eats yogurt.  But everything else has been good.  So far, he's had apple, avocado, pear, banana, green beans, squash, sweet potato, chicken, tofu, carrots, prunes, blueberries, and egg yolk (today!).

Poor Bacon has been sick most of the month.  Since starting school, Eggy's been bringing home all kinds of goodies and you know, sharing is caring.  So just as they start getting over one cold, they get another.  I think the kids at school just keep passing it back and forth between each other.

Despite all the illnesses, this has been my favorite month with Bacon so far.  We're finally settling into a schedule now where I kind of know what to expect.  He takes two naps a day.  The first one is between 9:30-10am which lasts for about 1-2 hours.  His second nap is usually between 2-3pm, depending on when he woke up from his first nap.  If he only napped an hour in the morning, he'll usually nap about two hours in the afternoon.  Either way, it works out to about 3 hours of naptime.  We usually put him to bed around 7pm.  Lately, he's been waking up around 6 or 6:30am.  Of course, I'd much prefer it if he woke up around 7 but I can't complain too much.  Once in awhile, he still wakes up during the night for a feeding but usually just once.
I also love how he excited he gets when I come home from work and crawls over to me.  But then he'll also get upset if I have to put him down to do something.  He'll crawl after me, whining and crying.  Dude, I'm just in the kitchen!

The best part is seeing Bacon and Eggy interacting with each other.  Eggy's always been Bacon's favorite.  She can make him laugh every time.  If he starts fussing while we're changing his diaper, she can usually get him to stay calm by singing him a song.  And when I put him in his car seat, he always looks over at Eggy in her seat, even if she's not there.  He really loves her so much.
And usually Eggy is very sweet with her brother too.  One time, we were driving when it was dark and Bacon started fussing.  Even though she was busy watching the iPad, Eggy told me to turn on the light for him.  When I turned on the overhead light, Eggy said to Bacon, "There, it's okay, Bacon" in this soothing voice.
Of course, she has her moments where she's not always feeling so nurturing.  Mostly because she doesn't want to share.  But she's only 3 so she's learning.  Once they're both older, they'll probably be fighting a lot more.  I wonder if they'll fight more over food or toys.

Umm, you want what?

Eggy appah usually exposes Eggy to more eclectic music than I do.  Even older songs, like Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight" Eggy knows how to sing.  When she's with me, she gets mostly pop.
So tonight in the car, she asked to listen to... One Erection.

Bacon is 7 Months!

Height: 26 3/4"
Weight: 16 pounds, 11.2 ounces
Head Circumference: 18"
Haha, so I guess he hasn't gained much weight this last month.  I think he was like 30-something percentile for height, 20-something percentile for weight, and 90% for head circumference!  The only thing growing is his head!  I even had to exchange a hat for one in size 18-24 months.
He's still in size 3 diapers.
Developmentally, this has been a huge month for Bacon.  He's like a totally different baby.  And it all seemed to happen at once.  You'd think with all the craziness from Korea and all, he'd take it easy but not this kid.  He's been busy.
His two bottom teeth finally cut through.
When we were in Korea, he kept biting me while nursing which hurt like a bitch.  I'd take him off and tell him no in what I thought was a stern voice and the booger would just smile at me.  Thankfully, he's stopped biting.  Hopefully, he won't do it again when his other teeth come in.
He can sit independently.  He'll still fall over once in awhile but he sits pretty well for the most part.  I even put him in the shopping cart and he seemed to enjoy it but he kept leaning over.

Even though he JUST learned to sit, Bacon is also getting ready to crawl.  At first, he would just pivot around on his stomach like a helicopter but now he gets up on his hands and knees.  He usually ends up sliding backwards which frustrates him.  Sometimes he'll get on his hands and knees, lunge forward, and repeat.  So he's getting there.  He just hasn't figured out how to actually move his arms and/or legs.
Eggy didn't start crawling until she was 8 months so I'm surprised that Bacon is already trying because he's been behind Eggy in everything else.  We better get to babyproofing the house.

I took him to his pediatrician on Monday for his 6 month well baby visit (a month late because we had to reschedule twice).  He got 3 shots and he did sooo well.  He cried a little bit but it was more like a crying out and no tears!
He is such a good baby.  Usually, haha.  Lately, he's been a little more fussier, always wanting to be held.  I'm guessing he's going through some separation anxiety.  On top of that, I think he's also got a little bit of stranger anxiety.  When we were at the doctor's office, he kept looking at the doctor and nurse.  He didn't cry but I could tell he was unsure of them.  Before he used to smile at everyone, but now he just stares.

We've been back from Korea for two weeks now and I think we're finally getting back to normal.  It's been the hardest on the kids.  Eggy's been having a little bit of a rough week at school.  She's been saying she doesn't want to go and cries on and off during the day.  She says it's because she misses us.  I guess she was just used to spending so much time with us when we were in Korea.  She was doing really well before we left so I'm hoping she'll adjust soon.  As for Bacon, he did really well with all the traveling considering but he was all mixed up when we got back home.  He was still on Korea time so he'd wake up a few times during the night wanting to play.  So not fun.  He also had an ear infection.  It sucks because I also got sick and the lack of sleep was not helping me get better faster.  I was exhausted.  But on Monday, we started re-sleep training him and he's starting to sleep normal again.  It's still a work in progress but he's doing well.  Actually, really well because he hasn't been waking up for any night feedings like he did before we left for Korea (I'm guessing the solids help).  Keeping my fingers crossed.

Whee!

I know, I still need to blog about our Korea trip but there are just so many dang pictures.  And I'm lazy. It's been an exhausting week.  But I think, I hope, (knock on wood) things are finally getting back to normal.
On Sunday, we made an overdue visit to Disneyland.  Omg, it was so hot.  We should have gone to the beach instead.  Anyway, Eggy especially enjoyed this visit because it was her first time on a rollercoaster!
Tall enough!
I wasn't sure how she'd react because she's usually so cautious about things.  She won't even go down some slides if they're too tall or fast.  But she loved it!  It was Gadget Go Coaster in Toontown so it was only like 10 seconds but still.

Now I have someone who will go on the rollercoasters with me since Eggy appah someone is too chicken.  Although... I think I might be too old for them too now.

Halloween 2012

This year, Eggy had two costumes.
For school, she wore her Red Riding Hood costume from last year.  It still fit, just a little shorter.  In the morning, Eggy and her schoolmates walked next door to the senior center to do a little trick-or-treating and other fun Halloween activities.  I didn't have work so I got to come along.  It was so cute to see all the little kids dressed up.

After the senior center, we walked back to the school and the kids had a parade for the parents.  Eggy kept saying that her legs were tired, wanting me to pick her up.  Since I also had Bacon with me in the carrier, it would have been impossible for me to hold her.  Her friend A also kept asking her dad to pick her up.  So I told them to hold hands and walk together back to school.  They ran off, holding hands.  So cute.

Lining up for the parade

Then, for trick-or-treating in the evening, Eggy dressed up as Minnie Mouse and Bacon was Mickey Mouse.

We ended up going with the neighbors who have a 10 month old son.  For some reason, Eggy just wasn't as into it this year compared to last year.  After just a few houses, she said she wanted to go home.  But that might have been because she just wanted to eat her candy.  I was like, what?  But you didn't get me any KitKats.  Anyway, I think a few of the houses spooked her a little because she's been wanting to sleep with the lights on the past couple nights.

Korean Photoshoot

One of the things I wanted to do in Korea was have pictures taken of Bacon.  As a second child, I know he won't have as many pictures as Eggy so this is just a way to help keep things more balanced.
I wasn't sure if we would even have time but we managed to squeeze some in last minute.  I'm so glad we did because they make me laugh so much.

Bacon is 6 Months!

Already half a year!
I took Bacon for a weight check last week and he was 16 lbs., 0.4 oz so he hasn't gained that much weight in the last couple months.  He's wearing size 3 diapers and he was just barely fitting in the 3 month onesies from Carters.  He can still wear some clothes in size 3-6 months.  But I guess he's got big feet according to my parents.  They got him a pair of shoes in a size 3 and they fit now.

We try to get Bacon to practice sitting but he won't have it.  He might tripod for a couple seconds and then he'll just fall over.  I think he prefers to sit up straight.  Already practicing good posture.

Another big milestone is that Bacon started solids.  And he loves it.  The first time I fed him, he couldn't get enough.  He was grunting and shaking.  And that was just oatmeal cereal.  So far he's only had avocado and apples.
Eggy wanted to feed him too
Other than that, not much else new going on with Bacon.  Still no teeth.  He still doesn't have much hair.
He continues to be a happy baby most of the time.  If you talk to him in a nice voice, he almost always gives you a smile.

Except for harabuji.  He always frowns at my dad for some reason.

Sorry for the short post but I have to go pack now.  We leave in just a few days and there's still so much to do!

Firsts

Last week was Eggy's first full week at pre-school.  The first few days were pretty bad but on Thursday, she didn't cry!  She seemed a little sad that I was leaving but no tears.  And same thing on Friday.  But this morning, she cried.  I should have kept walking instead of looking back at her.  I heard her cry, "I want umma..." before the teacher closed the door.

Also, yesterday, we had a playdate with two of Eggy's classsmates, a girl and boy.  We all happen to live in the same community so we got together at Eggy's new friend's house.  I think they had fun.  It's hard to tell because at this age, they're not playing with each other, just next to each other.  And they're both a little younger than Eggy, not quite three.  But I know Eggy liked playing with the "new" toys.  She even said she wanted to go over there again - to play with the jack-in-the-box.  We're all hoping that this will help the kids so they'll have a familiar face when they go to school.  It's kind of awkward because it feels like we're forced to make friends but the other parents seem very nice.

Eggy also got her first cold from school.  I'm assuming it's from school but I guess she could have picked it up anywhere.  It wasn't too bad though.  Just some congestion and a runny nose for a few days.  Yes, I was that parent and still sent her to school.  I asked and they said as long as she didn't have a fever, diarrhea, or vomiting, or green/yellow boogers, she was okay.  And I didn't want her to stay home when she had only been in school for a few days.  But Bacon and I caught her cold too.  Luckily, it didn't last long.

Another first is that I got a call from the teacher last Thursday because one of the students had pushed Eggy.  He was younger than her and wanted the blocks that she was playing with and pushed her.  She didn't fall down or anything but she just got really upset.  I can imagine.  Eggy's the type who will keep crying even after the incident is way over.  She can be pretty sensitive.  But I guess she's fine because she didn't even mention it at home.  And I didn't want to bring it up and remind her.  I thought Eggy appah would be really upset because he's always worried that Eggy will be bullied.  But he took it better than I thought.  My mom, though, she's funny.  She was all like, "Who was it?  Who was it?  Gijibae!  Was it a brat?  She shouldn't have cried; she should have hit him!  I would have hit him!"  Poor Eggy, I feel so bad that I wasn't there to protect her or comfort her.  I almost cried when the teacher told me.  She kept asking the teacher, "Why did he push me?"

She's had two accidents at school.  Good thing they make us keep a change of clothes.  She even peed her pants at home a couple times.  She told me, "Uh-oh, I had an accident."  She used to get upset before but now she's all nonchalant.  Another time, she didn't even tell us; I saw that her pants were wet.  Sigh.  I guess regressions are normal?

Luckily, she's still taking her nap.  I really really don't want her to give those up yet.  I think she cried before naps the first few days but that's normal too.  I think most of the kids cried before naps.  But the teacher told them that their parents would come pick them up after naptime so that helped.  And they let her bring her blanket from home that she always sleeps with.

I don't know if she's made any friends yet.  She's said a bunch of names but I don't know if she's just remembering names or if she's really interacted with any of them.

Overall, I'd say Eggy is adjusting really well.  She seems comfortable with her teachers (but she's always been pretty good with adults).  She makes me pretend to be Ms. M and ask me questions constantly. Ay, poor Ms. M if she's putting up with the same thing I am!  And I saw Eggy climb into Ms. D's lap like she does with me and her dad.  She still doesn't talk much about school.  Eggy appah tried to ask and she told him it was a secret.  I didn't think she'd refuse to talk about school until she was much older.  But I guess it's normal because the other parents said their kid won't talk about school either.  Once in awhile, she'll mention things here and there.  She's learned a couple new songs.  She played Duck, Duck, Goose.  She made a bracelet and a necklace out of beads.  She showed me her bracelet and said, "Look, umma.  BEATS!"  I asked her if she had made me a necklace too and she said no, it was only for her.
Her bracelet
Her first school painting has a hole in the middle of the paper.  I guess someone got a little zealous with the paintbrush.
But look how much better she is with the paintbrush after a week.  She used to just smear the paint all over but she's painting inside the line!  Mostly.  She was so focused.
This was yesterday at the playdate
Even though she says she doesn't want to go to school, I think it's been good for her.  It's weird not knowing all the details of her day.  That's probably been one of the hardest things for me.  Eggy appah and I were saying she even seems different since school started.  She must have been so bored at home.  I'm excited for her.  I hope she has a great year.

Sibling Abuse

Maybe it's not abuse because this is just Eggy's way of sharing.  So really, she's being nice!

Oh, the pitfalls of having an older sister, especially when you're a boy. Once she put her Rapunzel tiara and one earring on Bacon but I didn't get a picture.

Uh, why she had to get in the infant tub with Bacon, I just don't know.  Her bathtub is huge, like bigger than ours even.
And just so Bacon doesn't get upset later for taking and posting pictures of him in these embarrassing scenarios, here's one of Eggy in a not so dignified position.  It's only fair, right?
(Yes, she holds her nose when she poops.  My mom thinks it's hilarious that Eggy doesn't want to smell her own poop.)

Aww, but look how sweet she can be too...
