Happy Time

Since my last post was kind of a downer, here's some pics of a happier Eggy.
Tuesday was Eggy appah's birthday and no birthday is complete unless you have cake of course.
I'm so glad that Eggy shares my appreciation for cake.

Potty Training: FAIL

Notice something different about Eggy?
 Here's another view.
No diaper!  That's why her ass is so flat.

Anyway, we decided to try potty training Eggy today because we thought she was ready.  We were wrong.  Or maybe she is ready but we just didn't do it right.  Usually, I'm all about research research research but this time, I just kind of winged it.  Well, I did read this but other than that, not much else.
Because honestly?  Eggy's already used the potty a few times.  She knows what pee-pee and poo-poo are.  I just figured that she needed to learn to tell us when she needed to go.  I wasn't expecting her to be totally diaper free in just three days.  She would still need a diaper for naps and bedtime.  I was just hoping that she'd use the toilet on a more regular basis.  I expected accidents.  What I didn't expect was that Eggy would refuse to use the potty.
It started okay in the morning.  She peed on the floor a couple times but no pee in the potty.  That was fine; I expected that.  Maybe we put too much pressure on her but by the afternoon, she was holding in her pee. Like, she'd act like she'd have to go and even say that she had to go and we'd run to the bathroom and... nothing.  We tried getting her to just sit and stay on the potty but still no pee.  She'd grab her crotch and cry, "aiya" and no pee.  Sometimes, a little pee would trickle out but it was like she was afraid to pee.  Eggy ended up releasing her flood of pee all over both the hubs and me and cried the whole time.  Poor baby.  I think we traumatized her because she didn't want to pee anymore after that, not even after we put her diaper back on.  She didn't even poop today.  I don't want her holding everything in and causing problems.

Eggy appah doesn't think it was a total failure because now she knows to tell us when she gets that urge to pee.  It was a really really long day.  I guess we'll wait another month or so and try again.  Looks like I've got some reading and researching to do.  Any tips?

Happy Birthday, Eggy Appah!

Sourpuss

Eggy couldn't get enough of those kumquats even though they're so sour.  Just watching her makes my mouth pucker.

Mean Girl vs. Nice Girl

Toddlers are so temperamental.
When Eggy misbehaves, I ask her if she's a good girl or bad girl.  If she replies, "good girl!" then I tell her to stop whining/crying/etc.  If she says, "bad girl!" then I ask her if she wants a meh-meh (spanking), although I'm not even sure if she knows what meh-meh means.  (I don't think I could really spank her though.  Not yet anyway.  Ask me again when she's throwing a fit in the middle of the market because I won't buy her Fruit Loops.)  She says no so I tell her to cut it out and act like a good girl.  Usually, it works.  I dread the day when Eggy starts talking back to us and giving us real trouble.

Edit:  This morning though, she was naughty.  I don't even remember what the problem was but she was just acting like a jerk.  So when I asked her if she was going to be a good girl or a bad girl, she YELLED, "BAD GIRL!"  Oh no, she di'int!  And when I asked her if she wanted a meh-meh, she nodded yes.  Great, now what?  So I carried her to the other room and she started crying.  Probably because I took her away from her back-up (i.e. appah and hani).  She apologized right away and we kissed and made up.  But as soon as I took her back into the kitchen, she reached for my mom and started crying again.  "Waaah, mommy is so mean!"

Hide and Seek

Can you tell where Eggy's hiding?

MIA

Yeah, the Eggy family's been sick this past week.  She woke up last Thursday with a fever of 102.  I was worried it might be an ear infection because Eggy would rub her ear and say aiya so I took her to the pediatrician to be safe.  Luckily, no ear infection or pneumonia.  Yikes, I wasn't even thinking of pneumonia.  Anyway, other than a slight runny nose and cough, she's fine now.  I taught her how to cover her mouth when she coughs.

I, on the other hand, have this dry cough that will not go away.  It sucks.  I feel like I'm going to cough up a lung or something.  As long as Eggy's okay, that's all that matters.

She really is my daughter

I thought my love for cake was unparalleled, at least in our house.  It looks like I have a new rival.
Her eyes at the end?  They were saying, "So what?  Get me some more damn cake, woman!"  I die.

The Boba Thief

The hubs brought some boba for me today on his way home from work.  (He so nice.)  I think I had a couple sips before someone wanted a taste.
omg, it looks like she's hitting the bong, lol
I was a little worried that she'd choke on one of those balls but she didn't.  It must be because she's Asian.
I think she drank almost half.  Look at the size of that cup!  (And just in case you think I give my child tea, it's just milk.)
Wow, isn't Eggy so generous?

Little China Doll

Yesterday, we went to MaMa's house for Chinese New Year (and the Super Bowl).  Of course, Eggy had to get all festive and wear the dress that MaMa bought her for Christmas.  Too bad I don't know how to do her hair up like Kai-Lan.
With her favorite (and only, haha) cousin
A red envelope from SokSok
"Juggling" kumquats
Taking a blueberry break
I know, two posts in one day!  AND I managed to post every day for a week!  Except now, I'm running out of things to blog about.  Because really, our lives are not that interesting enough for me to blog every day.  And I'd just end up posting 30 pictures like this.
Doing what she does best: eating

Super Bowl Sunday

She usually does a better touchdown dance than that but I can't get a good one on video.  Oh well, maybe next season.

How to teach your baby to drive

Things like seatbelts and checking the rearview mirror?  Totally overrated.

For Hani

It's Hani's hwan-gab.  We're taking her out to dinner next week but no big party or anything.  I am a bad daughter.  =(
Geez, Eggy looks like a mess.  Now, I'm a bad mother too.  Double =(

Happy 22 Months!

Eggy is talking all. the. time. now.  She's still repeating after us all the time but now, the words actually stick.  Like she remembers the words and uses them later on her own.  It's crazy to see how fast Eggy learns.
  • jump
  • bus
  • potato
  • blueberries
  • lemon
  • cook
  • cut
  • uh-oh
  • cup
  • go
  • come
  • plum
  • buh-sut - mushroom in Korean
  • teapot
  • teacup
  • please
  • house
  • home
  • park
  • door
  • purple
  • yellow
  • bahm - chestnut in Korean
  • kim - seaweed (or nori) in korean
  • notebook
  • pear
  • piano

  • fork
  • knife
  • push
  • broken
  • aiya - ouchie in korean
  • Big Bird
  • Oscar
  • Grover
  • Ernie
  • Bert
  • Minnie Mouse (Mickey's still just "Mouse" though)
  • Goofy
  • Pluto - I'll have to be careful that Eggy doesn't say this in the barrio though because she the way she says it, it sounds like "puto."
  • Ariel (from The Little Mermaid)
  • Biscuit (a puppy from one of the books that The Rock gave her)
  • Sassy - my stuffed bunny rabbit
  • Pikachu
  • close
  • pony (There's a My Little Pony on her toothpaste so I'm not sure if she really knows what a pony is or she's just calling her toothpaste "pony")
  • toothbrush
  • comb
  • splash
  • shirt
  • dinner
  • hot dog - but she's talking about the song at the end of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
  • heart
  • uncle (She won't say Sok Sok yet but she knows what it means because if I tell her to say Sok Sok, she says, "uncle" instead.)
  • jji-jji - boobies in Korean
  • juggle
  • booger
  • spin
  • penguin
  • aiy-yi-yi
  • cereal
  • microwave
  • camera
I'm probably missing a few but I just can't keep up.  And not only is she saying a whole bunch of new words but she's even putting them together!  My baby's talking in sentences!  Well, kinda.
  • Umma come/go/push/help!  (Dang, she's so bossy!)
  • Nui-nui do it!
  • Good night
  • All done (She can say this in Korean too)
  • No apple (or whatever she doesn't want)
  • Nui-nui kkuh - which basically means "mine!"  But she'll say umma kkuh or appah kkuh or whoever saying that it belongs to that person.  This is in Korean.
So even though Eggy can say all these words and phrases, it's probably only clear to those who understand Egg-lish, like her dad and me and my mom since we're around her the most.  Even so, we don't always get what she's saying because a lot of the words sound similar.

I'm convinced that Eggy is going through the dreaded terrible two's.  She's like a psycho.  Any random thing can set her off.  For example, there's a little scratch or ding in our bathtub.  Eggy hardly pays attention to it because she's too busy trying to flood the bathroom with all her splashing.  But a few days ago, she pointed to it and freaked out, crying.  Psycho.  On Sunday, we went to D-san's birthday party at a My Gym.  Eggy really liked it but she didn't like the two employees.  Well, she didn't hate them but she was pretty rude to them.  Every time they tried to help her with something, she'd whine and want me to do it instead.  One of them had her hand on Eggy while Eggy was riding down this ramp in a car and Eggy pushed her hand away.  I was kind of embarrassed by the way she was acting, especially since I know she's better than that.  But when we went to dinner afterwards, she was so much better.  She was dancing at our table, charming the other diners around us.  Psycho.  When anyone comes home (like from work or whatever) and she hears the door open, she freaks out and runs to you and wants you to hold her.  It doesn't matter who it is, even if it's her dad, she just gets all weird and doesn't want to say hi or anything.  Psycho.

You know how some babies just crack up and they get that really big belly laugh where they can't stop? Well, Eggy's never been like that.  She just giggles a little bit.  But when she does get the giggles, she also gets the hiccups.  It's funny.

I'm debating whether I should start trying to potty train Eggy, like for real.  She peed in the potty again!  On her own!  She was running around diaper-less because she had just pooped and my mom was going to wash her butt.  So they were in the bathroom saying bye-bye to her poop and while my mom turned on the water, Eggy pulled up her onesie, sat on the potty, and went pee!  With no prompting.  So she definitely knows what the potty is for.  I just don't think she's really interested though.
