Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

Long week

Sorry, but this post is going to be super long and boring. But I just want to get it down so I can look back and remember. So just skip to the end instead.
We started sleep training Eggy this past week. She's never really slept the whole night through before but it was getting worse. When we were in Maui, we let her sleep in the bed with us. So when we got back, she didn't want to sleep in the crib anymore, not even for naps. The second we tried to put her down in her crib, she'd wake up. Or we'd have to hold her the whole time. It was tiring.
We decided to try the Ferber method. When Eggy was really young, I wasn't sure if I could ever do this. It's so hard to hear your baby cry and not do anything to comfort her. We tried it a few times before but we always gave in. "She's too young.... Maybe she'll get better on her own.... This won't work because she's too stubborn...." Always some excuse. But I was determined this time. I wanted Eggy to learn how to fall asleep without the boob, without the rocking, all on her own. I mean, it was kind of nice cuddling with Eggy in our bed but what if she never wanted to leave?! We only have a queen size bed and for a little person, she still took up a lot of space. Bed hog.
So we started Monday night. We put her to bed like usual, giving her a bottle, around 7:30pm. She woke up around 9pm, crying. Every time I went in to check on her, it seemed to make things worse for Eggy so I stopped going in. Plus, it was hard for me to see her crying and reaching out for me. I almost cried too. She cried for a little over an hour(!) before she finally fell asleep. Eggy appah was not happy. He said, "This Ferber guy better know what he's talking about." She woke up again at 11pm, crying. This time, she cried for about 45 minutes and it was less intense. She slept until about 4:30am, whining a little bit. I nursed her for a little bit until she pulled off on her own. Normally, I have to make sure she's in a deep sleep before I put her in her crib but I just put her down. She cried out a little bit but went right to sleep until 7:30am. Yay!
And it continued to get better. She'd still cry but not as long. And she'd sleep for a little longer too. She even slept for 11 hours straight one night! I was worried that all that crying would affect her mood but it didn't. She seemed happier even, maybe because she was getting enough sleep.
Then, we had a setback on Thursday. I put her down in the crib for her morning nap, sleepy but not asleep, like I'd been doing the past few days. After about 10 minutes, she woke up crying. But this time, she wouldn't stop. I had to leave for work so I told my mom to get her after 30 minutes if she was still crying. I came home early enough for her second nap. Again, she just continued to cry and cry. I finally figured out that Eggy had learned that I was peeking in on her from behind the bathroom door. So as long as she thought I was nearby, she kept crying out for me. Too smart for mommy. So when we put her to bed, we left the bathroom door open so she could see that no one was there. She cried for about half an hour before falling asleep.
Since then, she's doing well again for the most part (knock on wood). We also moved her crib out of our room yesterday. We were kind of sad because she's always slept with us but we thought she'd sleep better alone. And we were getting tired of tiptoeing around while she was sleeping.
I'm hoping that it continues to get easier and that Eggy will eventually not cry at all anymore. I just want to be able to put her down and have her go right to sleep. Of course, that means that Eggy will need me for one less thing so that makes me sad too. I can't win.

And if you just read this whole post, wow, you must have been really really bored. Anyway, here's a little video of my little monster. She doesn't just look like her daddy, she sleeps like him too.

Back from Maui!

We got back Thursday night, well really Friday morning but I had a ton of pictures and video to look through before I could post. Gosh, I'm still tired. I thought vacations were supposed to be relaxing. We had a lot of fun though.

Eggy was so good on the flight to Maui. I was pretty nervous about how she would do but she was awesome. She slept the first 2 hours so that helped. Even the people around us told us that she was a good baby. I think they were just happy that she wasn't a screamer.

Anyway, it didn't take long for Eggy to get into vacation mode.

She adjusted to the 2 hour time difference pretty well. (It's been a different story since we got back home though.)

Since Eggy appah and I have already been to Maui a few times before, we didn't really do much touristy stuff. It would have been kind of hard with an infant anyway. Mostly, we laid out by the pool.

And we went to the beach.

Eggy wasn't a big fan of the beach at first. I think the sand freaked her out.
But she got used to it.

But she really liked the pool the best.

Do you know how hard it is to get a baby ready for the pool while you're trying to get yourself together?

It was nice having my sister there to help us out. I think Eggy appreciated her help too. Thanks Eemo!

Other random pictures from our trip....

Our flight home was delayed 5 hours so we didn't get in until 2am! I don't know if it was because of the crazy weather in LA but I'm just glad we all made it back safely. Luckily, Eggy pretty much slept the whole time. She didn't wake up until we had to put her in the car seat.
As much fun as it was, it'll probably be a little while before we take Eggy on vacation again. But I'm glad we all went. Good memories.

Aloha!

We're still in Maui. It's been a lot of fun. I'll be sad to go.
I forgot the USB cable for the camera so I can't upload any pictures. But here's a quick video of Eggy swimming. It's her first time in the pool!

Update

So I think Eggy's getting better. She still has a runny nose but she seems less congested. It was so sad to hear her struggling to breathe. But luckily, it hasn't really affected her mood. What a trooper. Even though I'd never want her to get sick, I'm glad she got sick last week instead of this week because we're leaving for Maui on Saturday! Wheeee!!
Instead of just staying in her play area, Eggy's getting more adventurous. She's crawling all over the place now, getting into everything.
She found her Bumbo seat that she hasn't used in months. It was like a new toy for her.
Eggy was excited that she still fits.

Pinky and I were having a tea party until someone decided to crash. Rude.
Miss Piggy went straight for the desserts.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stats from the doctor's visit last week:
Weight: 18lbs., 4.6 oz (up 2 lbs. from 6 months)
Height: 28.5 inches (up 1 inch)
Head Circumference: 17.5 inches (up only 0.5 inch?!)
It looks like Eggy's growth is slowing down a little. I thought she'd be up to 20 pounds for sure. I guess it just feels that heavy sometimes. Milkamayv even said that Eggy seemed skinnier. Really? That made Eggy appah a little sad because he wants her to be chubby chubbs. He wanted to feed her ice cream!

Splish splash

My poor little Eggy is sick. And who gave her her first cold? Me! I feel so guilty. I woke up Monday with a sore throat and felt pretty crappy yesterday. Today, I'm feeling better but still coughing and stuffy. I went to work today and when I got home, Eggy had a runny nose. =( When she'd sneeze, her boogies would come out. She can't blow her nose so we have to suck her boogies out with the suction bulb thing. Hopefully, she gets better soon.
Thankfully, she hasn't been cranky. Yet. We'll see tonight....

But for now, here she is having some fun during her bath earlier tonight.

Look, how long Eggy's hair has gotten.
We don't give her a full bath every night because she doesn't really go out so she doesn't really get too dirty. But we've noticed that her feet are starting to smell! So I told Eggy appah to make sure to wash her feet and toes really well. And he said, "No, I don't want to. I kind of like that it smells." o_O

Rollin down the street, smokin indo, sippin on gin and juice

Laid back (with my mind on my money and my money on my mind)

Eggy likes to ride gangsta style, sideways with one hand on the back of the seat and the other on the wheel.

Drop it like it's hot

Did you know? Eggy's got a new BFF. They like to go clubbing together and dance. Giraffes are out, elephants are in.

Happy 9 Months!

Haha, she looks so chinky in the picture above.
Funny story: Last week, we went to the market. As I was taking Eggy out of the car, another car was parking next to us. I hear the driver say, "Look at the baby. How cute!" Then, I hear a kid from the back say, "Oh, it's Ni Hao, Kai-Lan!" What?! Just because she's Asian....
Anyway, so far Eggy can:
Get into a sitting position from her stomach
Put her lips together when you say popo (kiss)

Actually, she's been doing this awhile but now she'll do it on command (sometimes).
Make a "pretty face" Same deal as popo

Mahn-seh (raise her hands up)
Kohnjikohnji (pointer finger to palm of other hand)
Give hugs - my favorite

She doesn't really hug you with her arms; she just rests her head on you for a little bit but it's still nice, especially when she does it without you asking.

Eggy can pull herself on to her knees but not her feet. But she will stand for a little bit if she's holding onto something. We've had to lower her crib which is a pain on our backs.

She's also got a lot more teeth now, 4 on top. It seems like they all came at one time. She seems to like having her teeth brushed. I kinda wish she didn't have those top teeth; it was cute just seeing the bottom two.

Eggy's not talking yet but she's making a lot of noise. "Adadadadadada..." and "Mamamama..." but I don't think she knows what they mean. But it was nice to hear say "umma! (mom in korean)" and "daddy!" really clearly.

She's tried tofu, egg yolk, and chicken. We also started giving her some finger foods. At first, she would just shove her hand in her mouth without letting go of the food so it would stay in her fist.

But Eggy learned quick. She really likes those Gerber puffs. The little piggy can't stick them in her mouth fast enough.

I'm taking her to the pediatrician on Tuesday so we'll see how much the little beast has grown.
